Biography
Dr. Perkins joined Southeastern Retina Associates in 2002. His educational and professional credentials are outstanding.
He began his career training at North Carolina State University, Raleigh where he earned an undergraduate degree in biochemistry. Four years later, in 1995, he finished his medical degree at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Then it was on to the University of Virginia, Charlottesville to serve a one-year internal medicine internship, and back to Duke for a three-year residency in ophthalmology.
After holding a two-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Dr. Perkins joined Charlotte Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat in North Carolina for a year before moving his practice to Knoxville.
In 2009 he spent time in South America performing ophthalmic laser surgery for poverty- stricken citizens of Milagro, Ecuador. His work was sponsored by Medical Ministry International.
Dr. Perkins’ other interests are as engaging and vigorous as his professional focus. He enjoys trail biking, whitewater kayaking, snow skiing, and Jack Russell terriers.
