Biography
Dr. Couch attended Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia, where he earned a bachelor of science in biology in 1992. He followed that degree in 1997 with an M.D. from Mercer University School of Medicine in Macon, Georgia. He served a one-year internship in general surgery at the Georgia Baptist Medical Center in Atlanta and stayed in the South to serve a three-year residency in ophthalmology at the University of Kentucky, Lexington.
He held a one-year fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases and surgery at the West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia, before joining Southeastern Retina Associates in Kingsport in 2002.
Dr. Couch loves to travel and enjoys physical exercise of all kinds, though he favors hiking and snowboarding. Dr. Couch and his wife Kathy have been together since high school and are the proud "parents" of dogs and cats. He has completed several Ironman triathlons and enjoy trail running and hiking in national parks.
