Biography
Dr. Asghar "Abbas" Haider received an undergraduate degree in Neuroscience with a minor in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. In addition to his medical degree from the University of California, Irvine, he received his Master of Business Administration. During medical school, he was awarded the Excellence in Medicine Leadership Award from the American Medical Association for starting and running an organization that mentors underserved youth to academic success.
Dr. Haider completed his residency training at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, where he was awarded Outstanding Graduate of the Year. With interest in ocular oncology, Dr. Haider completed the prestigious Duke Ocular Oncology Fellowship Program. He then completed his Vitreoretinal Disease and Surgery Fellowship at Retina Consultants of Alabama – the University of Alabama Birmingham, one of the country's most rigorous surgical retinal training programs, where he completed over 1200 surgical retinal cases.
While in his fellowship programs and medical school, Dr. Haider received several scholarships and grants and authored numerous ophthalmic research peer-reviewed articles and presentations in retinal diseases and ocular oncology.
Dr. Haider is excited to join Southeastern Retina Associates and serve his patients' retinal and ocular oncology needs.
While away from work, Dr. Haider tries to spend as much time as possible with his family and friends, exploring new activities, exercising, and trying new restaurants.
